Product Details

Join in the fun of stranded color knitting the Fair Isle way. You will be introduced to the yarn of Shetland as well as a bit of the history and the unique story of this colorful technique. We will use traditional jumper-weight woolen-spun yarn (equivalent to fingering weight). After a bit of practice in knitting with two colors, you will begin knitting your own Fair Isle headband or one of the patterns that Joan developed to teach this time-honored technique. Topics to be covered include: yarn dominance, three ways to hold your yarn, managing floats, reading the pattern and lots more.

Required Supplies/Equipment/Books:
Students will need: US #1 and US #3 needles, 16" in length (or length to support your preferred method of knitting in the round for a hat/headband), locking stitch markers, scissors, pencil, tapestry needle, ruler, and your standard set of notions. PLUS, the Fair Isle Headband pattern and yarn OR their selection of one of these kits: My First Fair Isle Hat or the Diamond DuJour Hat. The cost of the hat kits is not included in the class fee – it is a separate purchase.

If you choose to knit the headband, please let us know that you need to have the headband pattern emailed to you. You will need to purchase two balls of contrasting colored jumper weight yarn if you choose to knit the headband. Yarn for the headband is not included in the class fee.

Prerequisite:
Must be an advanced beginner knitter or beyond and have already knit in the round.
