Name Drafts

Crack the code of creating weaving inspired by your secret message. We will be hand drafting and learning this very old method of creating an original overshot draft. It is great fun, good brain exercise, and superb drafting practice. You will create a unique draft that you can actually weave on four shafts. The image shows a name draft that is based on "love heritage." Project planning by yarn type and sett are included. Joan’s step-by-step approach to this technique makes it much easier than you would think. If you love weaving, you will enjoy delving into this weaving puzzle that can be transformed into fabric for towels, coverlets, baby blankets, upholstery fabric, and so much more.

Day/Date/Time:
Sunday, 2/7/2027, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, with a break for lunch. This class meets once.

Required Supplies/Equipment/Books:
Pencil with eraser.

Prerequisite:
Must know how to warp and weave on a multi-shaft loom. 

Pre-Class Prep:
Bring samples of yarn in your collection that you might like to use to weave an overshot project. A simple way to do this is to cut a length of yarn and attach it to a card (tape, holepunch), and jot down the weight, WPI, fiber content, and quantity you have (by weight). You will not get a demerit if you don’t do this exercise, but it will help you add realism to your project planning in class.
